When we brew our beers, we have to pay a vast sum in Duty to HMRC. For example, a brew of 20 Brewer’s Barrels of Natural Magik 4.5% requires over £1200 to be paid purely in duty, and a similar sized brew of Beheaded 7.6% requires over a whopping £2000.
In terms of Natural Magik, this equates to approximately £15.00 per cask, or £7.50 per 20 litre polypin.
If you are a business and the beer is used in cooking, with the end product containing minimal amounts of alcohol (such as a steak & ale pie for example) then the pie manufacturer can claim the duty back from HMRC in lots of £250.
